Getting to Leuven

Leuven is centrally located in Belgium and easily accessible from across Europe and beyond. Whether you are travelling by plane, train, car or coach, reaching Leuven is quick, simple and well connected.

The nearest airport is Brussels Airport (Zaventem), located just 20 km from Leuven. From the airport, you can take a direct train to Leuven, which departs frequently and brings you to the city centre in just 12–15 minutes. Taxis and shuttle services are also available for a comfortable door-to-door transfer.

A second airport, Brussels South Charleroi Airport, is located approximately 90 km from Leuven. From there, combined bus-and-train tickets connect you to Leuven via Charleroi-Sud station.

Leuven is one of Belgium’s main railway hubs, with excellent national and international connections. High-speed trains such as Eurostar, ICE, TGV and Thalys link neighbouring countries to Brussels or Liège, from where Leuven can be reached in around 25 minutes by train.
The Leuven railway station is located within walking distance of the city centre.

Leuven is easily accessible via major European motorways such as the E40 and E314, connecting the city to Brussels, Liège, Antwerp and beyond. Several parking facilities are available on the city ring road, with convenient access to the city centre. Visitors are encouraged to use park-and-ride options for easy access.

International coach companies offer direct connections from cities across Europe. Within Belgium, regional buses ensure smooth access to Leuven from surrounding areas.
